Okay, maybe you're getting tired of me posting about weird food, but I just can't help myself. It's so entertaining! Today, I would like to share the Breakfast Buffet with you. This is the hotel complimentary breakfast that is provided every morning. It's crazy. It's strange. It's soooo China.
First, we have the cold dish section. Most of these didn't have names next to them, so I can't tell you what they are. I know those black things are called "preserved eggs". I can tell you I didn't eat any of them.
Next, we have the soup section. Featured here is the "kelp and egg soup". Mmmm....
And here we have "peanut and tofu soup" next to the "cream of soybean".
Across from the soups, is an expansive row of vegetable dishes. Sauteed cucumber is first in line.
How about some "sauteed kelp with meat" for breakfast? I think I'll get one of those boiled eggs instead.
And don't forget your noodles, rice, and "uncongealed tofu" either.
If none of those things spark your morning appetite, then perhaps a chunk of taro root will do the trick?
For the westerners, there's the old standby of baked beans and weird bread.
Here are a bunch of steamed buns with stuff inside them. Those in the front contain bean paste.
Oh look! Bread! With......hot dogs.....and vegetables.....baked into it. Er...hmm. Okay.
And if you can't find anything else to eat, there's always one of these pastries that either has bean paste inside of it (the brown stuff), or tastes somewhat like a napkin, or both.
I'll be the American eating a boiled egg and some noodles.
