What to Wear, According to Hopers

The other day we decided to go blackberry picking. We know a special place where one can wander for a mile in any direction and find nothing but blackberry bushes. Of course, I wouldn't recommend wandering through the blackberries because the thorns are rather pernicious little boogers.

The girls love love love to pick them and eat them, and they talk about them all through the spring just waiting until June hits and the blackberries are ready. On this day, they were ready. I announced the plan. Squeals of joy were the replies. Hopers ran off to her room to get dressed (she was still in pajamas) and Noodle jumped up and down all the way to find the buckets.

In a few minutes, Hopers returned, having gotten herself dressed in the only way a three-year-old knows how:

Uh, prepared? Hey, at least the life jacket matches the shorts. As we were getting into the van a few minutes later, she ran off to get her shoes and came back wearing her pink Hello Kitty rainboots. "Are these okay?" she asked me. Apparently the child was really concerned about moisture levels. I gently guided her to some more appropriate footwear, but let her continue on with the outfit. She wore it for a while, but the weather was very hot, so she took off her flotation device.

She must have realized that drowning wasn't very likely in a blackberry patch.

I do love some Hopers!!!! Hey, I wanna take Jeremy blackberry picking.... not that he would eat them or touch them... but I am determined to keep exposing him to fruits in hopes that one day he'll try something.

I suppose if she lived at our house, it wouldn't seem so inappropriate.
