Under the Stack

Lately we've been pretty obsessed with "house" stuff.  By "house" I mean, the place where we want to live one day, not the place we currently live.  Currently, you might remember, we live in a borrowed home--the empty home lent to us by a generous friend.  We are blessed by this for sure, but the itch to have our very own place has drawn us into the market.

So we've been looking.  The past few months have escalated from a few casual conversations about where we would move, to a full-blown house hunt.

At this very moment, we have made an offer on a house and are waiting....waiting...  The house is a short sale.  If you know anything about short sales, it's that they're not short.  They take a long time.  Namely, because, even though the owners of the house have accepted our offer and we are now "under contract" with them, their bank is the one who has the final say in the matter.  Short sales happen when someone needs to sell their house, but the house will never sell for the amount they owe on it.  So, their lending bank agrees to take less and forgive the rest of the debt.

Meanwhile, us little 'ole buyers have to wait for the bank to decide if our offer is enough.  And apparently, in this terrible housing market full of short sales and foreclosures there are quite a few homes to decide on.  We've been waiting several weeks, now.

Apparently, there's a stack.

And we're under it.

If I look sleepless, you'll know why.  I'm waiting.  Just don't tell me I "look tired" because that's code for, "You look like crap!" and I'd really just rather not know.

Actually the bank has a choice to forgive the debt or give a promissory note. If you build it they will come.
