Goin' To Court

It has been one year, this month, since we adopted Teegan.  (I say "we" because, a. I went over there to get him, b. he thought I was his momma for the first few days, ha ha, and c. my family is just tight like that.)

Coincidentally, today was Teegan's Court Day, one year from his adoption. Gosh, that took a long time.

Court Day is a special day in which the United States government recognizes the adoption as legal.  We all filed into a quiet court room at the county courthouse. There is a lawyer present to represent my parents and make sure paperwork is in order.

There is a judge present to make sure paperwork is in order.

Dad made sure the paperwork was in order.

The kids made sure we were all frazzled by the end of the proceeding.

Noodle:  "Why does the judge have to wear a robe and why do we have to stand up when he comes in?"

Me:  "The robe shows that he is a judge and that he is in a position of respect and authority.  We stand up when he enters to show him respect."

Tobianna:  "Is his robe going to be purple?"

Me:  "No, but it might have sequins on it!"

Tobiann:  "REALLY?"

Me:  "No, Tobianna.  Not really."

The kids wiggled and fussed their way through the 10 minute meeting.  I sat on the back bench and tried to keep them under control with motions like "the lip zipper" and "the big eye ball finger shush."  Afteward we went out to the front of the building and had a quick photo session.

Happy Court Day, Teegan!
